BMX champion Aaron is the wheel deal!
Aaron Dalleywater, who lives in Wrestlingworth High Street is the quickest BMX cyclist after triumphing in the 12-year-old class in the National BMX Championships.
Aaron, who is 11 but will be 12 in December, claimed the title after winning seven of the 12 race meetings which have taken place over the last six months.
Mum Natalie, whose other son Ted, 10, has also enjoyed success in BMX competitions in the past is delighted with Aaron’s progress.
She said: “Aaron has been taking part in competitions for the last five years and he has come on so far.
“He has enjoyed second and third places in the past but this year he started strongly and has gone from strength to strength.”
The series of race meetings started back in the spring and has seen former Burgoyne Middle School pupil Aaron competing in competitions in Peterborough, Manchester, Dagenham and Braintree in Essex, Gosport in Hampshire and Redditch in Worcestershire.
Races often take place on dirt tracks very much like in Motocross competitions, and are normally 400 metres in length.
Throughout the season Aaron has raced up to eight other boys in one race.
The design and style of the competitions is also quite similar to their motor racing equivalents.
Natalie added: “At the start they line up behind hydraulic barriers and then when the light goes green they set off.
“There are then a series of jumps and tight corners and bends that really test the riders’ balance and technique so to finish first is quite an achievement.”
