Boy airlifted to hospital after collision with bus

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital following a collision with a vehicle.

The boy was taken to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel after he suffered a serious head injury in the collision in Potton Road, Biggleswade at around 12.35pm on Wednesday (September 7).

The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) was alerted soon after and crews from Kempston and Sandy attended the scene close to the railway bridge at the junction with Havelock Road, while the Herts Air Ambulance took the boy to hospital.

EEAST spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “The boy received a serious head injury and following treatment, stabilisation and immobilisation by land paramedics and the critical care team from the helicopter was flown to the specialist trauma centre at Royal London Hospital.”

Bedfordshire Police closed part of the road and traffic was diverted down Rose Lane.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was breathalysed and passed the test, and that investigations by the crash investigation team are ongoing.
