Car park to remain open in the evening

THE early closure of a public car park has been reversed after a business was adversely affected.

On Monday, June 13 Sandy Town Council began closing the barriers of Sandy Town Car Park at 8pm in a bid to stop youths racing around the car park and other antisocial behaviour.

At the town council meeting on Monday it was agreed that the change had had the desired effect.

But Badar Uddin Ahmed, owner of The Ghandi restaurant and take-away, told the council that he was losing a lot of customers because they could no longer find anywhere to park when collecting take-aways.

The councillors agreed that it was not acceptable for this business, which has been open in Sandy for 27 years, to potentially go under as a result of the parking changes.

The barrier is now open until 3.45am as it was before so that businesses do not suffer. The town council is working with the police to find an alternative solution.
