Following recent reports highlighting the problem of loneliness among older people who live on their own, staff and residents at Bupa’s Abbotsbury Residential Home in Biggleswade are set to put the kettle on and go baking mad in preparation for a special tea party that will take place at the home on Tuesday, 16 April from 2.30pm.

Older people living in the area are invited to come along and join in the fun at the party, which is being held in support of Communi-tea Week, a nationwide campaign that uses tea-themed social events to help tackle the problems of isolation and loneliness in older people.

Home manager, Karen Patrick, said: “Everyone knows that there is nothing better than a friendly cuppa to bring people together and encourage a chin wag, and our residents and local community are no exception.

“So we want as many people as possible to come along, have a good time and make new friends over a brew and a piece of cake.”

Tea party guests will also be treated to delicious Cherry Bakewell cupcakes, which were the winning entry in the recent Bupa Bake Off, a national competition to find the official Communi-tea Week sweetbake. The competition was hosted by TV baker, Brendan Lynch.
