Carnival skates to a close with contest

MORE than 50 energetic youngsters showed their skills at a long-awaited skating competition.

The event was originally part of Sandy Carnival but had to be deferred twice due to bad weather.

It finally took place on Saturday (July 23) in the Sunderland Road Skate Park.

Teenagers and pre-teens turned out in force to show off their skills while parents watched from the sidelines.

Declan Willicombe won the eight to 11-year-olds’ scooter category while Dylan Fitt took second place.

The 12 to 14-year-olds scooter section was won by Jason Stolworthy with Brandon Partridge in second place and Daniel Stolworthy in third place.

Evan Lloyd took first place in the BMX contest with Callum Savies-sond in second place, followed by George Albone in third.

The inline skating category was won by Jack Hutchinson with Nathan Wesley in second place.

Ethan Brayton came triumphed in the skateboarding section, followed by Oliver Farrell in second place and Dominque Dixon in third place.

Jack Hutchinson, who won the inline skating section, was also selected as the competition’s overall winner.

Councillor Ken Lynch, who organised the event, said: “Jack was absolutely brilliant. He put on a wonderful display with lots of tricks.”

Sandy teenagers Coby-J Elkin, Luke Ford, Sam Cothill and Ethan Metcalf used their skating knowledge to judge the competition and choose the most talented winners.

MP for North East Bedfordshire, Alistair Burt, and Peter Hollick, chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council, presented the winners with trophies.
