Centuries old pub closes to patrons

A VILLAGE has been left with just one pub now that another watering hole has closed its doors.

In October rumours spread about The Salutation in Blunham shutting and the owner, Greene King, has now confirmed that it has closed the business due to a shortage of customers.

The High Street pub is located at the heart of the village and had been operating for nearly four centuries.

It was first opened as the Ragged Staff in 1646 and the name was changed to the Old Salutation in 1768.

A spokesperson for Greene King said: “After a full review of our estate we have decided to close the Salutation pub in Blunham.

“The decision to close the Salutation was not taken lightly but unfortunately the pub could not continue to operate with only a small number of customers using it.

“At this stage we are unable to confirm future plans for the pub.”
