Charged for store robbery

DETECTIVES have arrested a man on suspicion of robbing a specialist coin and jewellery shop.

Cambridge Coins and Jewellery owner, Dave Allen, was forced to the floor of the Biggleswade High Street shop and tied up when armed robbers targeted his store on Wednesday, January 5.

They also made off with jewellery, gold and coins between 11am and 11.15am.

Now 72-year-old John Gladwin, of Stubbs Lane in Tadworth, Surrey has been charged with one count of robbery. He appeared at Luton Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 22 June 2011 and was remanded in custody. The date of his next court appearance has not been set.

This follows an investigation by the Central Bedfordshire Robbery Team.

Dave said he is delighted with that someone has been charged.

Detectives are still seeking the second offender who assisted with the emptying of the safe. He is believed also to be from Surrey and to know John Gladwin. They may be regular associates.

Bedfordshire detectives are appealing to the public in Surrey to contact them if they know this man or think they possibly know him.
