Charity cash from selling pixels

A CANCER charity is using a novel way to raise money for its coffers.

Sue Ryder, St John’s Hospice, in Moggerhanger is selling advertising pixels to companies on a special website in an attempt to raise £100,000.

A pixel is a unit of space on a computer screen. There is a grid of one million pixels on the £100k challenge homepage and companies can buy boxes on the site starting for as little as £10.

Nar Paresh, of Sue Ryder Care, said: “We all know that charities are finding it hard to raise sponsorship at the moment, partly because the business market is changing.

“With 99 per cent of businesses in the UK being small and medium sized, and larger businesses tightening their belts, we wanted to find a way that anyone, even part-time enterprises, could get involved, have a little advertising and know that 100 per cent of their donation is going to the charity.”

The charity is not the first to use the concept of selling pixels to raise funds, but this is the first time that it has been used by a charitable organisation.
