Children's healthy lifestyle project in awards final

A children's project in Shefford is among three initiatives from a housing association up for awards.

Aragon Housing Association have made it to the final of the Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) Central awards which celebrate the achievements of those that have made a significant impact in their communities.

Aragon’s Kids Run Free programme in Shefford has been nominated for the Excellence in Youth Involvement Award. The programme promotes an active and healthy lifestyle for children aged two and over and is free-of-charge.

The second scheme in the final is Project Mackenzie for the Excellence in Employment Skills and Training Award. This is a partnership employment, skills and training programme with former Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi, delivering skills workshops to young people aged 16 to 24.

The association’s Scrutiny Group is going for the Excellence in Scrutiny Award. Aragon’s Scrutiny Panel reviews services proposed by the board, management team or residents to suggest improvements that will provide future direction for the organisation and also holds Aragon to account for its performance.

Community investment manager, Becky Pavey, said: “To be shortlisted for one award is great, to be shortlisted for three is fantastic. It’s a huge boost for our organisation to have the work we do to support tenants and the wider community recognised by TPAS.”

The TPAS Central Awards final is being held on March 4 in Birmingham and winners then go on to the national finals.

The TPAS awards are open to social housing providers, tenants and contractors to showcase successful or innovative ways of working and to help others within the sector by sharing best practice.
