Couple visit Indian charity

A couple who support a diabetes charity in India have paid a visit to the country to help affected children.

Allan and Mary Hayes, of Henlow went on a charitable trip to Nagpur to help The Dream Trust.

The charity gives free insulin to children in the country who are diabetic.

The couple – who raised £500 at a fundraising coffee morning at Henlow Methodist Church before they left – spent time in a clinic that youngsters had spent many hours travelling to.

They also visited affected families in the area.

Mary said: “Many families live in just one or two rooms.

“Water comes from a tap in the street and it is only available for one hour a day.

“Still the children play happily and they made us feel very welcome.”

Mary has diabetes herself and she gave a speech to around 150 people about life with the condition, before a buffet was served.

The couple also presented a £500 cheque to The Dream Trust.

The trustees will now decide how they will spend the money.
