The Croft Kitchen on Palace Street is run by Kieron and Michael Singh who are restaurant manager and head chef respectively – an eaterie which specialises in local produce.

The restaurant has been open for almost two years and has been recognised by The Guardian and The Good Food Guide as a top ranking restaurant.

The regional winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 1.

Kieron said: “We feel to be named as a frontrunner in itself is a massive achievement and something we are very proud of. What we would love is if we could win this for Biggleswade.

Kieron and Michael didn’t dream of having the success they have had since opening.

Kieron said: “I think it is going really well in terms of the recognition we are getting because we know we were taking a big risk in terms of this being our first venture together and doing something quite ambitious as well.”

Michael has previous experience of being a chef throughout Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire but he enjoys the fact the restuarant uses as much local produce as it can.

He said: “We are keen on using local suppliers. We get our meat from Dunton Lane, actually we just had some asparagus delivered from Dunton. Our emphasis is on simple food done well.”

The restaurant is the only one of its type in Chronicle Country and the bespoke dining is certainly going down a treat with diners as they have voted them as a frontrunner in The Good Food Guide.

Kieron said: “We didn’t expect to be frontrunners at this stage especially with so many superb restaurants in the running. We’re really grateful for people in the local area for nominating us.

“We think it would be great for an area like Biggleswade to have a restaurant recognised on a larger scale.”
