‘Dangerous’ rapist jailed for 12 years after attacks on two women

A rapist who attacked two women he met on internet dating sites has been jailed for 12 years.

Sean Smith, 46, of Clifton was sentenced by Judge Gareth Hawkesworth at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, March 22.

Sentencing Smith, of Yew Tree Walk, Judge Hawkesworth said: “You pose a serious and dangerous risk to any woman with whom you might form a relationship.”

Smith pleaded not guilty to eight offences against the two women in their forties.

He was convicted or rape, grievous bodily harm, threats to kill and criminal damage in respect of one woman, and false imprisonment and two actual bodily harm offences against the second one.

All of the offences took place between July 2011 and February 2012. Judge Hawkesworth imposed an extended licence period so Smith will be monitored for an extra four years.
