Driver over twice legal alcohol limit
A driver has pleaded guilty to getting behind the wheel while over the alcohol limit.
Matthew Hyde, 30, was stopped by police in Lower Stondon on Thursday, February 27. Hyde, of Henlow High Street, was driving his Volkswagen Golf at 11pm when he was found to have 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Speaking in Hyde’s defence, Mr Trotter said: “He had been out with work colleagues and had had a lot to drink but he had a train journey so he thought he was fine and under the legal limit. He is full of remorse.”
Hyde was disqualified from driving for 17 months and this will be reduced by 25 per cent if he completes a drink driving course.
He must also pay a £850 fine, £85 costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
