Explore garden for charity

GREEN-FINGERED spouses are opening their garden to the public for the second year running.

Richard and Liz Whitlock had more than 450 visitors when they took part in the National Garden Scheme last year. They hope to have a similarly successful day next weekend when they open their Wrestlingworth garden on Sunday (July 10).

And this year visitors both young and old can see also see four grazing cows.

Richard said: “For the first time we’ve got highland cattle on the grass for summer grazing. They have gingery long coats and long horns.

“They keep the grass and some of the weeds down.”

Animal lovers can also observe the colony of newts in the pond.

And for the children there will be a special competition in which they must find pictures of different species and identify the birds. Each type of bird has been spotted within the 13 acre garden and the hunt will cover the whole site.

The garden, at 8 Potton Road in Wrestlingworth, will be open from 2pm to 6pm. Entry costs £4 for adults while children get in free. Money raised will go to the National Garden Scheme’s chosen charities and the Wrestlingworth Goodwill Fund. Last year £2,000 was raised for charity.

There will also be two mini concerts by an ad hoc choir of semi-professional musicians, homemade teas and ice cream and a plant sale.
