Family flee as flames engulf house

A family fled their house after flames engulfed the first floor of the property.

Louise Demetriou was at home in Rowan Crescent, Biggleswade with her son Alex, three and mother-in-law Christina when the three heard crackling noises upstairs at around 3.15pm on Wednesday (March 13).

The mother of three went upstairs to investigate and saw the flames that had taken hold of the two-bedroom terraced house.

Firefighters evacuated residents from neighbouring properties and spent hours putting out the blaze.

Louise’s partner Alex Rosenblum, 30, said he was relieved that none of the three were injured and that his other two children were still at school when the fire happened.

Plasterer Alex rushed back from a job he had been doing in Cambridge when a friend called to tell him about the blaze.
