Jane, 64, said: “I’ve been around the libraries for a long time – it was something I always wanted to do. I worked in libraries for a short while before I got married and I came back when my children were old enough.

“I have a love of books and reading and of sharing that with other people. I love seeing the people, and especially the children, enjoying reading.”

As Sandy Library is only small Jane and the other members of staff have all helped out with the library’s various activities, including the craft fairs and rhyme time.

Jane, who lives in Brickhill Road in Sandy, is a particular fan of modern female crime writers, including Kate Atkinson and Susan Hill.

She added: “Having been here quite a while I’ve got to know the readers and I’ve seen them grow up.”

All customers are invited to join Jane at the library on Thursday, June 30 to say their personal goodbyes. There will be a presentation at 4.15pm followed by cakes and nibbles.
