Fifth World Book Night on the horizon

Sunday Times bestseller Sophia Tobin will be giving a talk in Sandy Library at 7.30pm called Scandal & Murder: Confessions of an Historical Novelist, about the inspiration behind her books and the writing process.

Meanwhile, at Shefford Library you can enjoy a Girls’ Night In from 7pm.

The fun-filled evening begins with a free drop-in session with competitions, prizes, a dance machine and much more. At 7.45pm bestselling authors Rowan Coleman (The Memory Book) and Katy Regan (The Story of You) will be in attendance to talk about writing for women.

World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books.

The event is run by The Reading Agency, a national charity that inspires people to become confident and enthusiastic readers to help give them an equal chance in life.

And each year the World Book Night organisation supply a list of 20 books to be given away for free by volunteers to non-library users and people who aren’t or never have been regular readers.

Among the authors whose books are on the list this year are bestsellers MC Beaton (Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series), Lynda La Plante (Prime Suspect) and David Almond, (Skellig).

David Almond said: “I’m really pleased that one of my books is to be part of World Book Night.

“What a great, optimistic, liberating, democratic project.

“What a wonderful way to celebrate one of humankind’s greatest creations.
