Flying the flag for Armed Forces Day

Councillor David Bard, the council’s Chairman, raised the flag at the ceremony today (Monday, June 23) where he was joined by staff and councillors as well as Bob Bryant, ex wing commander with the RAF and member of the Cambridgeshire County Committee for the Royal British Legion.

The ceremony was one of many taking place around the country to recognise Armed Forces Day and to honour men and women of the armed forces, both past and present.

Armed Forced Day helps raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. It also gives the nation an opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.

Mr Bard said: “Our armed forced show tremendous bravery and courage in some of the most difficult circumstances and the council is honoured to be joining people around the country paying tribute to them on this special day.

“The armed forces community stretches far beyond those serving on the frontline and this is a perfect opportunity to remember serving personnel past and present as well as all of their families.”
