Forthcoming elections

Ballot papers at the ready – it’s almost time to vote.

Several councils are holding elections on Thursday, May 2.

Voters in the Gamlingay ward can select a new county councillor to represent them. The incumbent councillor from East Hatley, Sebastian Kindersley of the Liberal Democrat party, is running again.

His competitors are Diane Birnie of Burleigh Road in St Ives from UKIP, Alison Elcox of Alms Hill in Bourn from the Conservatives and Peter Smith of Mill Lane in Arrington from Labour.

The newly formed Fairfield Parish Council, which has broken away from Stotfold Town Council, will be looking for seven councillors to sit around the as yet empty council table.

The candidates are Vivien Batten of Fairfield Hall’s Huntingdon Wing, Christopher Bidwell of Franklin Place in Fairfield Park, Alexandra Bontoux of Hardy Way in Stotfold and Geoffrey Collins of Livingstone Way in Fairfield Park.

Also running are Barrie Dack from Bronte Avenue in Fairfield, Penny Daffarn of Hardy Way in Fairfield Park, Ruth Featherstone of Kipling Crescent in Stotfold, Nathan Hanks of Hardy Way in Stotfold, Phil Mitchinson of Faraday Gardens in Stotfold and Geoffrey Smith of Middlemarch in Hitchin.

Sandy Town Council is in need of a new councillor for the Pinnacle Ward. There are three candidates; Christopher Butterfield of Glebe Road, Cheryl McDonald of West Road and Claire Phelan of High Street.

Finally, Little Gransden Parish Council has one vacancy. The candidates are John Jefferies of Fullers Hill, David Pemberton of Church Walk, Adrian Penrose of Main Road, Paul Safford of Main Road and Tony Sargeant of Main Road.

All of the polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.
