The 71 foster carers help to look after some of the most vulnerable children in Central Bedfordshire Council’s care.

And among those who picked up certificates at the Celebration of Fostering event were Chris and Dawn Addams from Shefford, who were recognised in the Outstanding Contribution to Fostering category for their extraordinary care to help a child develop and reach milestones from a difficult beginning.

Dawn said: “Working with children is something I always wanted to do and now we both can’t imagine doing anything else. It is such a privilege to receive an award for something we absolutely love doing.

“We are very dedicated to looking after both our own children and the foster children we care for.”

Foster carers were nominated for awards by staff, social workers, fellow foster carers and looked after children. The nominees then went on to a judging panel. The awards event also included a parrot show, staff choir performance, a barbecue and music for the families to enjoy.

The council is still looking for more foster carers – call 0300 300 8181 to find out more.
