Frustrated resident issues call to arms over litter

A frustrated resident has issued a call to arms over a town’s litter problem.

Peter Biernis, who lives in the Fairfield estate, says he is tired of seeing litter and dog mess in streets and parks around Biggleswade.

He says he has appealed to Central Bedfordshire Council to improve its street cleaning service but that his pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Angry householders have also quizzed Biggleswade Town Council about the state of the roads at its meetings – though there is a limit to what it can do as responsibility for the cleaning falls at the feet of Central Beds Council.

Members of Biggleswade Town Council have also spoken about the problem and have called on Central Beds Council to take action.

Weeds in the roads are a particular bugbear for many residents, who say road cleaners are not nearly thorough enough when it comes to de-weeding in the town.

Dog mess is another area of concern, though dog owners must surely take some responsibility.

There are widespread reports of dog mess in areas around Biggleswade, where owners are clearly too lazy to clear up after their pets.

In some areas the mess is seen very close to dog bins.
