Mathew Geaves of Sandy was being cared for at St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger but helped to arrange the Match 4 Magic event in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity.

His sister Francesca said: “He was mad about football and played most evenings.

“He played for different teams on Saturdays and Sundays and he was even thinking of taking part in the event.”

Though football was a lifelong passion for devoted Manchester United fan Mathew, family and friends always came first.

Francesca added: “He was the perfect brother to me, he was older than me and was very protective, always looking out for me and his brother Marc. Mathew was a kind and loving man who always had a smile on his face.”

Mathew’s childhood friends Helen Sefton and Lee Belcher have organised the fundraiser at the Bedford Road Recreation Ground in Sandy on Sunday, which kicks off at 11am. It will continue at The Bell pub from 1.30pm where there will be a barbecue, bouncy castle and raffle.

Mathew’s funeral will be held at St Swithun’s Church in Sandy on Tuesday (May 14) at 11.30am.
