Go a-carolling with Philippa

A singer has released her second CD – this time with a festive theme.

Soprano Philippa Woodcraft, 24, has produced a CD of carols called A Few of my Christmas Favourites.

Philippa was born blind and learns her songs by ear, although she can also read brail music.

She said: “I work for a Christian charity called Through the Roof and I wanted to do something to raise funds for the charity.

“I recorded it on my Macbook in my house.”

The carols include O Come, O Come Emmanuel, Come And Join The Celebration and The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came.

Philippa, of Biggleswade Road in Dunton, mostly chose lesser known songs that were not already on the standard Christmas CDs.

She said: “I did love Once in Royal David’s City because I was able to do the descant as well.

“This is actually my second CD. I did one of hymns in the Summer called I Shall See Him Face to Face. I sold about 300.

“I’m hoping to do some children’s songs next time.”

Philippa is an ambassador for Through the Roof, a charity that seeks to remove barriers for disabled people.

She visits youth groups, churches and schools to talk about her personal experience of disability, to raise awareness of the charity’s work, to encourage people to get involved and to give a biblical perspective on disability.

She often treats her audiences to a song when she visits!

She is also a member of Potton Baptist Church.

A Few of My Christmas Favourites is available for £5 plus postage and packing from www.throughtheroof.org

The website includes audio samples. Philippa’s first CD is also available from the website.

Alternatively you can buy the CDs directly from Philippa by calling her on 01767 313947.
