Good will bunting

MEMBERS of the Fairtrade Association Biggleswade (FAB) joined representatives from Fairtrade towns and organisations from around the UK to help with a world record attempt in London.

Members of the group helped people from Fairtrade towns, universities, schools and faith groups to provide material for more than two miles of bunting around Battersea Park in London.

More than 130,000 individual pieces of Fairtrade cotton bunting – equivalent to almost 19 miles’ worth – were decorated by individual groups and sent to the Fairtrade Foundation to hang in London.

The material was put up as part of the Fairtrade Foundation’s campaign to demand justice for West African cotton farmers, and the end of unfair cotton subsidies.

Celebrities including Dame Helen Mirren, Fern Britton, Sir Michael Parkinson, Lorraine Kelly and more than 100 MPs also backed the campaign. For more information about FAB see www.fabweb.org.uk
