Have a go at washing one of our show pigs

Here's an unusual invitation from Guy Kiddy of Solitaire Farm in Drove Road, Gamlingay.

As part of the national Open Farm Sunday event on June 5, he’s challenging anyone brave enough to have a go at making one of their prize pigs look spotless.

He said: “They’ll have been at the Suffolk Show on Wednesday and Thursday with our pig show team and they’ll be having a bath on Sunday.”

He added: “During the day children will have a chance to bottle-feed some of our orphan lambs.

“There’ll also be a hog roast and hot and cold drinks in the farmhouse garden.

“And our farm shop will be open so you can buy some of our delicious pork, bacon and sausages to take home with you.”

> Open Farm Sunday – managed by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) – is one of the industry’s biggest success stories. Since the first Open Farm Sunday in 2006, more than 1,000 farmers across the UK have opened their gates and welcomed people on to their farm for one Sunday each year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young and old alike to discover what it means to be a farmer and the fabulous work they do producing our food and managing the countryside.
