Themed lessons, language taster sessions and foreign language films were the order of the day as Henlow pupils threw themselves wholeheartedly into learning about languages.

Henlow offers French as its major foreign language as well as German and Spanish as an option, but pupils learnt Swahili, Japanese and even Dutch from teachers with experience of those languages.

Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mark Bellamy, said: “It’s been a fantastic day dedicated to learning about other cultures and the
importance of languages.

“Pupils here learn French to a very high standard and do well at GCSE.

“They have also enjoyed adding new languages to their repertoire and participating in all of the language activities as part of European Day of Languages.”

The day of languages was the first of many events planned for this term at the school including Jeans for Genes Day which takes place today.
