High price for better website

A WEBSITE technician has expressed his disbelief about the cost of a council’s website upgrade.

Sandy Town Council is spending £5,255 on improvements to its website, in addition to the annual maintenance cost.

The council has said that this is a much needed upgrade following many years of low expenditure on the website.

It would combine the current town council site and the Roman Sandy site.

Steve Purchase, who works for mprc Web Services in St Neots Road, Sandy, with Maureen Purchase, agrees that the website needs to be improved.

But he said: “The figures being bandied about would appear to us to be more than a little on the high side for what is absolutely necessary.”

The upgrade will be undertaken by the council’s existing provider, Verto UK.

Sandy Town Council’s deputy clerk, Jonathan Whitehurst, said: “We are aware that we have under invested in our two websites for a number of years.

“Verto UK has worked reliably with Sandy Town Council for more than 10 years and was asked to present some proposals to upgrade and improve our current websites.”

The figures were discussed at public meetings in July, August and September.
