Colin Osborne and his wife, Diane, visited the school to find out about the changes that have seen the school’s dramatic improvement.

After being welcomed by a guard of honour of students, they enjoyed formal presentations on the school’s progress, which outlined the excellent Ofsted report in July and record-breaking exam results. The GCSE results were the highest in the history of Bedfordshire.

Principal Ms Hare said “It was an absolute privilege and honour to welcome the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Mr Colin Osborne and Mrs Osborne to the ‘new Sandy upper’ that we have now created.

“During their visit, they spent time in several lessons and spoke to many students, and they were very impressed with the excellent teaching and learning, the exemplary behaviour, and our high standards of respect for one another. It was such a delight to hear our students talking about their own outstanding GCSE and A level results with such pride.

“Mr and Mrs Osborne were able to see the remarkable transformation of the school for themselves and praised us for how far the school has come in such a short period of time.”

Colin Osborne, said “My wife and I enjoyed a memorable visit to Sandy Upper School on Tuesday and were delighted to learn from both staff and students of the superb results that the school has been able to achieve in the past year – an outstanding transformation.”

During a celebratory lunch they were joined by Alistair Burt MP, co-chair of governors, Alison Kitchener and Tracy Stock and several members of the senior leadership team and staff.
