Hope for Woolpack pub

A historic Shefford pub could be re-opening its doors.

The Woolpack, on Hitchin Road has been closed since the death of the landlady Sally Taylor in 2012.

But it has now been sold and the new owners are planning to reopen it.

They have put in a planning application to Central Beds Council for permission to convert the pub’s disused garage and outbuilding into a food preparation and takeaway service, serving the pub and outside customers with a limited range of hot food.

In 2013 local residents set up the Woolpack Community Support Group who campaigned to have the pub, which has been there since 1851, placed on the council;’s List of Assets to the Community. The group has been in discussions with the new owners over future plans.
