Hospice head of clinical services goes on the run for cause close to his heart

Dominic Carter, 48, head of clinical services for the hospice in Moggerhanger, joined 15,000 participants in the 13-mile Bath Half marathon which started and finished in Great Pulteney Street, in the heart of Bath, on Sunday, March 13.

It is one of the shorter distance races but he has previously run three London Marathons, two London Triathlons, and a Brighton Marathon for St John’s.

Dominic, who lives in Bedford, said: “I wanted to do something special for St John’s Hospice because all the staff work so hard and really believe in the work they do, and also because it’s a cause close to my heart.

“I just want to make sure I can help more families by doing my bit.”

Dominic said: “I just wanted to raise as much money as possible.

“I have not set a target. If I can raise a few pounds and support the hospice to keep serving its community, then the blisters have been worth it.”

Sue Ryder St John’s hospice opened in May 1980 and has been providing the local community with palliative care and support ever since. We now care for people aged 18 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease.

That care is delivered in the community and at the 15 bed hospice.

Dominic has been at St John’s for six and an half years, and he has clinical responsibility for the care delivered by the various services provided by, and from, St John’s Hospice.
