House shook during night of rail work

A MAN has likened the noise and vibrations caused by work at a railway station to being in Jurassic Park.

The platforms at Sandy Railway Station are being lengthened so that they can hold 12 carriages.

Richard Inglis, who lives in Stratford Road in Sandy, described the noise and vibrations caused by the work on Saturday evening (March 10) into Sunday morning (March 11).

Foundation work started at 10pm and continued until at least 4.30am.

Richard said: “The house shakes when there’s a goods train going past but this was 20 times worse.

“I could see everything shaking on the bedside cabinet and I could hear the perfume bottles rattling against each other.

“It was like Jurassic Park when the dinosaur’s coming. It was so intense it was unbelievable.”

Objects were falling off shelves and Richard is particularly cross because an allen key fell on to the tank of his classic motorbike and chipped it.

Network Rail’s spokesman said: “The improvements are good news for passengers but we are sorry to hear that the work has caused some disruption to our neighbours.

“The foundation work at Sandy has been done and completed and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

If there are future problems Network Rail can be called on 08457 114141.
