Impending decision about timber yard application

DESPITE objections from residents and a town council, an application for a new industrial site is likely to be given the go ahead.

Bartram Properties has submitted an application for a change of use from a nursery/horticultural site to a commercial timber yard at the former Market Garden Nurseries on Beeston’s High Road.

Central Bedfordshire Council will be making a decision on Wednesday (September 14) at a meeting of the development management committee. The application has been recommended for approval.

22 Beeston residents attended the Sandy Town Council meeting at which the matter was discussed back in May and the town council supported the villagers by objecting to the application.

Sandy councillors said that the timber yard would be in a quiet village in the open countryside, would result in noise and dust pollution, would result in a loss of wildlife due to the increased traffic and likely encroachment on the village green and the increase in traffic would be a road safety hazard for children and pedestrians.

However planning officers believe that the timber yard would not have a negative impact on the character of the area, on neighbouring properties or on highway safety.

The meeting is open to the public and takes place in the Chicksands council offices at 2pm.
