Frontier founding board director Richard Banks, whose family started the company before it was sold and later merged with Frontier, cut the ribbon.

He described his delight at seeing the progress the company has made since his family sold it 12 years ago.

Richard told the staff: “I would never have dreamt that it would be a business with revenues of £1.5 billion.

“Progress has been exceptional and this has been brought about by good management and hard work by all of you here today.”

Frontier provides services and advice to farmers to assist them with crop production and grain marketing.

Sandy is one of the company’s six main trading offices. The site is also the location of one of Frontier’s seed processing plants.

The revamped building includes a large open plan office, meeting rooms, a gym and a seed laboratory. There is space for at least 30 extra employees in preparation for the company’s future growth.

Chloe James, who joined the company as a receptionist this week, said: “I haven’t been in the building before and I was told they were having a renovation but this is the next level. It’s unlike any office I’ve seen!”

The ceremony was also used as an occasion to thank the longest serving employee at the site, David Osborn of Sandy, for his 50 years’ service.

David said: “I can remember as it was in the old days of ‘63 and this just seems a mile away but what we’ve actually achieved, all of us, is incredible because we’ve come from a very small family company with probably 50 employees trading in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire to where we are today, where we are nationwide.

“I’m coming to the end of my career now but it’s wonderful to think that you are going to go forward.”
