Knife blades placed in play equipment

Craft blades have been found embedded in children’s play equipment.

The three blades were discovered by a member of the public at around 5pm on Thursday, September 13.

They were stuck into the monkey bars at Henlow Park.

The person who found the blades removed them and called the police, who came and collected them.

In a statement Henlow Parish Council condemned the act.

It said: “The blades were tightly, deliberately knocked into the timber frames with nearly half their length left protruding.

“It is incomprehensible as to why anyone would carry out such a mindless act, as children’s fingers could easily have been severed had the blades not been discovered.”

The council immediately contacted Henlow Academy, Raynsford Lower School and Derwent Lower School so staff could inform parents about the blades.

Chronicle readers also spoke of their shock on the Biggleswade Chronicle Facebook page.

Liz Cox said: “That’s so horrible. Hope they catch who did it soon.

“Really frightening for parents.”

Kelly Stafford added: “Some horrible people out there!

“And a child could have got seriously hurt!”

Paul Chapman said: “What goes through these people’s heads?

“They need some serious psychological tests.”

The incident has been passed on to the local policing team.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police confirmed that patrols have been increased in the area.

Anyone with any information can call the police on 101.
