The Great Barford-based Alma Choir has raised the cash during a year of charity concerts, as well as raising money for other worthy causes – including a concert that raised £700 for the preservation of Elstow Abbey.

And the ladies’ choir has already picked out its next charity and will be raising cash for Alzheimer’s in 2014/15.

The choir started out as a small, local group that enjoyed singing back in 2010 – but with the help of a professional musical director and talented piano accompanist has flourished.

Although one of their main principles is singing for pleasure, they also enjoy performing and raising money for charitable causes, and have performed at a number of local events and for community groups. They have also performed further afield, with Christmas carols at Frosts garden centre in Willington, at Luton airport and at church carol services.

The choir always welcomes new members. To find out more, including details of upcoming events along with reports and videos of previous concerts, visit www.alma-singers.co.uk
