Make sure your fireworks are safe

Central Beds Council’s Public Protection team are inspecting local firework retailers, offering advice to people running displays and telling people how they can protect themselves.

Councillor Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Community Services, said: “Firework displays can be great fun for everybody, but people have to remember that fireworks are explosives and they can be very dangerous.”

Officers from the Trading Standards team will be carrying out some 55 inspections at retailers next week.

They will check that businesses are sourcing fireworks from reputable suppliers, which have been manufactured to the correct British Standards.

Retailers must also know the law in relation to age restrictions – you must be at least 18 to buy them.
