Mammoth vineyard task for volunteers

GREEN fingered wine lovers can help produce their favourite beverage by undertaking a spot of pruning.

Volunteers are being invited to spend a few hours cutting back the vines at the Warden Abbey Vineyard.

The community vineyard just outside Old Warden is run by the Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity in partnership with Shuttleworth College.

Winter pruning sessions will take place every Tuesday and Friday until the end of February, starting next Friday (January 13).

Project manager, Jane Markham, said: “With around 4,250 vines pruning is a mammoth task but absolutely vital to getting good growth and a successful crop later in the year. Many hands make light work and new volunteers are always welcome.”

Training and equipment will be provided. For further details phone 07981 113714 or email [email protected]
