Man escapes armed robbers

The man was driving down Hitchin Street in Biggleswade in the early hours of Sunday, November 11 when he saw a white van parked in the middle of the road with its headlights on full beam.

Two men then got out of the vehicle with one holding what appeared to be a crowbar.

The men approached the victim’s car and demanded that he got out, but the man refused and reversed up the street to get away.

They tried to pursue the man but he managed to lose them in the surrounding roads.

The first man – who was holding the weapon – is described as white, in his early thirties and of stocky build.

He was wearing a woolly hat and dark clothing.

The other man was also white, in his early thirties and of slim build with short blond hair, wearing jeans and a dark jacket.

Detective Constable Luke Moore of Bedfordshire Police who is leading the investigation would like to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened or who saw the van in the area before or after the attempted robbery.
