Man hospitalised after New Year’s Day assault

A man suffered a bleed to the brain after he was kicked in the head during an attack on New Year’s Day.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the assault in Station Road, Sandy at around 12.30am.

The 36-year-old victim was attacked shortly after leaving The Bell pub in the road and remains in hospital under observation.

He was talking to his girlfriend on the phone while his friend walked ahead to look for a taxi.

It was during the phone conversation that he is believed to have been knocked to the ground and kicked in the head.

The victim’s girlfriend then drove to Sandy to collect her partner and take him to their home in Luton.

Later on New Year’s Day the victim was taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital where a scan revealed he had suffered the bleed to the brain as well as bruising to his face, cheek and eye.

Detective Constable Amanda Durrant is keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the victim in the pub before the attack.
