Man killed on railway near Sandy

A MAN has died after being hit by a train on the railway near Sandy.

He was struck by the 1.35pm East Coast train from Kings Cross to Leeds just after 2pm today (Friday, April 15).

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line near to Lindells level crossing in Sandy, Bedfordshire on following a report of a man being struck by a train.

“BTP and Bedfordshire Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 2.08pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

Paramedics from East of England Ambulance Service also attended but the man, whose identity officers are working to establish, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

This has caused delays between Kings Cross and Peterborough which are expected to last until 6pm today.
