Mayor’s speech is the talk of the town

Street lighting and council tax were among matters discussed at an annual town meeting.

Shefford mayor Councillor Paul Mackin led the Shefford Annual Town Meeting on Friday, April 19.

Mr Mackin spoke about issues surrounding the council tax precept for 2013/14 .

He also talked about problems the town experienced with street lighting over the winter, due to a combination of lower power units being used to supply the lights and the very cold weather.

The new allotments that could be created on land at the front of Shefford Health Centre were also a focal point, especially the delays the council has experienced in reaching an agreement on the lease with the Robert Lucas Trust charity.

Shefford Open 4 Business – the new forum and support group for business people in the town – was also on the agenda for discussion.

Mr Mackin said that the organisation – which holds regular meetings and events – is an invaluable resource and aims to revive the former Shefford Chamber of Commerce.

He also spoke about new housing in Shefford.
