Minister ordained in Sandy

A CHURCH is going from strength to strength with the ordination of a new minister.

Reverend Beth Powney was officially ordained at Sandy Baptist Church on Saturday (June 4) after spending the previous three years in training.

And with this she moves from part time to full time hours, doubling the length of time that she will dedicate to the congregation.

Beth said: “I’m now affirmed in my calling as a minister. It was the first day of the rest of my life because when you are ordained it’s not a job, it’s a lifestyle.

“Whilst you might retire from paid work you never stop being an ordained minister because it’s a calling by God.”

She added that the Baptist Church funds its own ministers so employing her full time has also been a financial step of faith and shows that the congregation is expected to grow.
