More than 200 at Langford wind farm meeting

Langford Parish Council hosted the meeting and it was chaired by council chairman Tony Spencer.

North-East Bedfordshire MP Alistair Burt also attended so he could speak on the proposals and answer residents’ questions.

The Co-Operative group has lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate over the wind farm after Central Bedfordshire Council turned down its application to build one in the village.

The Planning Inspectorate is due to visit the area in November, and an inquiry will begin at Central Bedfordshire Council’s offices in Chicksands on November 1.

Opponents to the proposals, which would see 10 wind turbines put up in Langford point to the fact that some of the turbines would be located within 700 metres of homes in the village. In continental Europe they are not allowed to be built within two kilometres of people’s homes.

Mr Burt said that he believes that the final decision will be influenced by the strength of feeling that is shown in the village, and by the impression that the inspector gets when he or she visits Langford.

Central Beds Council is opposing the appeal and has hired a QC to argue its case at the inquiry.
