Musical bands rock to the top

IT was a contest of musical talent as bands gathered to display their skills – and all in the name of charity.

Battle of the Bands was part of the Sandy Carnival celebrations when it took place at Sandy Conservative Club on Saturday, July 9.

All of the money raised on the night will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

Seven hopeful groups competed for the title of Best Young Band but the honours finally went to Gamlingay band Flu Jab.

Cambridge’s Chasing Outlaws took second place on the night, which was arranged by Sandy councillor Ken Lynch and hosted by Gamlingay Records.

Music lovers will recognise Sam Neighbour, who took third place, as he came second in Sandy’s Got Talent in June.

Sam, who lives in Berwick Way in Sandy, will continue to help the hospital charity as he releases his very own CD.

The 16-year-old Sandy Upper School student said: “It’s five tracks of cover songs that I like; a bit of Jimi Hendrix, Squeeze, T Rex, The Beatles and Death Cab For Cutie.

Sam’s CD will be available from The Music Room in Sandy High Street and from Councillor Ken Lynch on 01767 681739. It will cost just £3 and half of this will got to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
