New bus service for Shefford surgery

PATIENTS will soon be able to travel to and from a doctor’s surgery by bus thanks to two new shuttle services.

From Tuesday, July 26 residents wanting to visit Shefford Health Centre can take advantage of the new W15 and W16 Wanderbus services, which will run every Tuesday afternoon from then on.

The voluntary, not-for-profit organisation stepped in after bus companies Stagecoach East and Grant Palmer said they would not be able to alter their existing routes to accommodate the centre.

Duncan Thomas, chairman and driver at Wanderbus, said: “I first approached Dr Cakebread and Partners, who practise at Shefford Health Centre last year, but at that stage it was too early for the idea to be discussed in depth.

“I’m glad we’ve been able to help as unfortunately it was not feasible for the bus companies to change their routes.”

The W15 service will start at the Robert Lucas Drive centre before travelling through Clifton and Henlow, returning to Shefford via Clifton again.

Passengers using the W16 route will go through Campton and Meppershall.

Each service will include three runs, and both will operate for around three hours. The services are open to everyone.
