New garden at Biggleswade church

A NEW Garden of Remembrance will allow for the interment of ashes at St Andrew’s Church in Biggleswade.

The Bishop of Bedford, the Reverend Richard Inwood and Wendy Smith, the deputy mayor of Biggleswade were among the guests as the garden was officially unveiled on Sunday (June 5).

The Shortmead Street church ceased burials in the grounds more than 50 years ago after space ran short and the new garden should mean there is room for the interment of ashes for up to 100 years.

Small plots of land will be available in the garden, where holes can be created for ashes to be poured into before the turf is re-laid on top.

The idea first originated from the Parochial Church Council three years ago.

The organisation wanted to create a new area for the interment of ashes and also a place where residents can go to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
