The proposals for Meppershall are a joint project from Meppershall Parish Council, the Village Hall Committee and Polehanger Farms, in association with Bloor Homes.

The land on the northwest side of the village behind Meppershall High Street has been allocated for development by Central Beds Council.

The development plan document adopted in 2011 calls for a minimum of 68 homes, a community centre, sports pitches and various other smaller facilities.

Consultations are ongoing with villagers, who were invited to attend a two-day exhibition at Meppershall Village Hall last week.

A spokesman for Jardine Michelson, PR advisors to the developers said: “More than 300 people attended where they were able to examine draft plans for the scheme and to ask questions of all parties concerned.

“They were invited to fill in questionnaires which are in the process of being returned for analysis.

“No date has yet been set for an initial planning application.”

The community building has been designed to fulfil a range of different purposes , and would replace the existing village hall.

If the plans go ahead it will include a main hall, games and meeting rooms, changing rooms, a kitchen, offices, a pre-school room with external covered play area and a 70-space car park.
