New hub is opened

Services for disabled children and their families in Chronicle Country will be available under one roof at a new facility.

The Ivel Valley Hub was officially launched by Central Beds Council on Wednesday (February 27) at The Baulk in Biggleswade.

Central Beds Council chairman Councillor Angela Barker cut the ribbon at the centre, which is located next to The Lawns Nursery School and Children’s Centre and the Ivel Valley School Primary Site.

The hub will provide a
variety of different facilities for disabled children and teenagers up to the age of 18.

As well as activities which will be arranged and supervised for youngsters, respite care will also be available during the day and overnight.

Mrs Barker said: “When the plans for this new hub first came together I was the
executive member for children’s services so I have been very much involved from the start.

“The building has come on so much since I last came here two years ago.”

Mrs Barker said the centre would make life much more convenient for the parents and carers of children with special needs.

She added: “Now they will not have to drive to different places – it will all be here.”
