New initiative gets people out and about

Talk of the Town Community Transport in Sandy has just launched a new community-based initiative to provide short outings to the residents of local assisted-living and care homes in the area.

The idea is to have a variety of different locations each week including shopping trips, garden centres, pub lunches and other places of local interest.

The residents of Quince Court enjoyed the first trip to Tesco last Friday, where they were warmly welcomed by Kelly Byrne and staff and given a shopping bag as a souvenir of their visit.

Next week, residents will be taken for a pub lunch at The Guinea in Moggerhanger.

The trips will be financed by sales of sweets on the Sandy weekly market, so your support for this worthwhile cause would be greatly appreciated.

‘Talk of the Town Community Transport Club’ is run by a dedicated team of volunteers to provide a not-for-profit service for the residents of Sandy and District.

Community groups can hire the 14-seater (including driver) minibus in order to visit various places of interest and sports teams can travel to away venues, which saves on the running of a fleet of cars.
