No longer transmitting analogue

ANALOGUE signals being emitted from the Sandy Heath transmitter were turned off forever on Wednesday (April 13).

This completed the area’s switchover to digital television. The transmitter, which can be seen for miles around at night, will only transmit digital signals from now on.

Analogue signals throughout Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire were switched off simultaneously shortly after midnight. These previously broadcast analogue BBC, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

The change will leave space for extra channels to be broadcast.

Peter Monteith, Digital UK’s regional manager for Anglia, said: “This is an historic day for TV in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire as we say goodbye to the old analogue system forever.

“Viewers have responded extremely well and many are enjoying the benefits of digital TV for the first time.

“As with any change on this scale, some people may need a bit of extra help so we and the Help Scheme are on hand to give advice and assistance to those who may need it.”

Viewers, including those who already use digital televisions, will have needed to retune their freeview equipment to receive all of the channels. This is because the services have moved to new frequencies.

If you need help with your digital television visit www.digitaluk.co.uk, call the advice line on 08456 505050 or look out for local advice points.

The Help Scheme is still open to applications from older or disabled viewers who may qualify for help including choice of equipment, installation and aftercare.
